Founder
Micala McCoy, M.Ed., founded Wildflower Home for Girls out of both experience and vision. Born to teenage parents in the West Dallas Projects and later raised in Pleasant Grove, she witnessed firsthand the challenges that come with growing up in communities where resources are limited. Rather than let those challenges define her, Micala turned them into motivation to create pathways of hope and opportunity for others.
For more than 12 years, Micala worked in education and youth services as a high school teacher, preschool teacher, middle school teacher, college professor, and crisis counselor for at-risk youth. She holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of North Texas—one in Human Development & Family Studies and another in Secondary Education—as well as a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. Her journey through classrooms, counseling, and community work has shaped her unique ability to nurture, guide, and advocate for young women.
As Founder and CEO, Micala focuses on advancing the mission of Wildflower Home for Girls and building the resources needed to provide critical services. In the early days, she often funded programs out of her own pocket—proof of her belief that every girl deserves a safe place to grow, heal, and dream.
Beyond her professional life, Micala is a proud mom of three and a true Southern belle who loves cooking, gardening, and singing karaoke. A Christian at heart, her guiding motto is simple but powerful: leave everything better than you found it.
